In early 2009, thirty five years old and pregnant with my daughter (known in this blog as Little Pearl), I took a redundancy from the Australian Public Service. I expected to go back to work within twelve months, and had Little Pearl’s grandparents lined up to provide childcare.
Little Pearl changed our lives and all our plans. I loved being at home with her, watching her develop and grow every day. My husband and I talked and calculated and planned and brainstormed and finally, we decided that I would stay at home to care for Little Pearl until she was old enough to go to school.
Little Pearl begins at our local Montessori School this year. I work part time for a not for profit organisation and I’m also enrolled in a maths degree. Between writing, working, studying and being with my family, I’m determined to make every second count.
Our family lives in Canberra with two horrible Burmese cats known only as ‘the blue one’ and ‘the brown one’. The picture in my header is the view from Mt Hotham in Victoria, Australia.

Haven’t heard from you in ages, but now I see why. Congrats on becoming an independent contractor. IMO, it’s the best way to have a good life.
Stopping by today to wish you a Happy New Year! Great Health, Happiness, Productivity and Security for you and your loved ones. Keep us posted.

Hi Texanne!
Yes, I hope the business works out – but now that I’ve done some of the legwork to set it up, I’m hoping – no, I WILL find some time to finish that first draft
So I’m looking forward to seeing you & everyone else back on the boards and the blogs very soon…
And your visit here inspired to me get the first thousand words for 2011 down on my novel – thank you!
